I’m typing this from Colorado, sipping on hot coffee, reflecting on the previous year and getting ready for a morning run. The sun is shining bright.

I released my last podcast episode of 2023 this morning on three questions to ask in thinking about your year:

1. What are you proud of?

Yes, it’s possible to be proud of what you’ve done and also be driven towards where you want to go. And yes, it’s also possible to be proud and not be arrogant. Internalize the poker chips you’ve won at the poker table of life. They matter.

2. What lessons did you learn?

Lessons about you, others, the world. Often, we learn more from our struggles than we do from our successes.

3. What gave you energy? What robbed you of it?

Whether people or tasks, life is a game of energy. Without it, everything feels HARD. So, identify what gave you energy (and also took it away), then act to maximize the former and minimize the latter.

As I sit here, I have much to be proud of and grateful for – it has been a wild ride of a last year:

A marriage and an amazing honeymoon.

A new dog.

Speaking engagements in 14 states, from Disneyworld to Disneyland, and my first trip to Canada.

Two marathons with my brother after welcoming him back to the U.S.

Coaching clients that are driven, cool, and keep me on my toes.

Record revenue for my business.

Giving more hugs, doing more pushups 🙂

I don’t take any of these things for granted. But the part that I’m most proud of is that they didn’t happen by accident. They happened because of conscious intention. I’m guessing what you’re proud of is the same?

To sign off, I’ve identified that one of the tasks that gives me energy is creating content and putting a message out into the world.

This email is an example of THAT.

If you’re reading this right now, you’ve helped to give me energy. Thank you. And if you’ve ever responded with a comment, thank you 2x.

I truly hope you’ve had an Outperforming 2023 and wish you all the BEST heading into the new year. Your future is bright.

Cheers to 2024!
