We got 11 inches of snow last night in Lone Tree, CO. So I got up this morning, queued up a podcast and shoveled the driveway for the first 40 mins of my day.
That counts as a workout, ya?
Then I sat down with a piping hot cup of coffee and came across a concept I had years ago, called “Alive in Five.”
The context was different then but the neurons were firing at a moment of optimal caffeination. I started to brainstorm.
It occurred to me that peak performance (or times when we feel most “alive”) include five necessary factors. I wanted to get your take on them:
-
Intention (what do you want?)
-
Significance (why does it matter?)
-
Strategy (how will you do it?)
-
Execution (are you doing it?)
-
Evaluation (is it working?)
If one of the factors is missing, the greater whole is affected. Think about it…
- Intention gives you a goal. But without significance, your pursuit is unfulfilling.
- Significance gives you a reason. But without strategy, you’re muddled in confusion.
- Strategy gives you a roadmap. But without execution you’re left standing in the same spot.
- Execution gives you progress. But without evaluation, you may be running off course.
- Evaluation gives you feedback. But without intention, there is no ambitious finish line.
What do you think? Make sense? Agree or disagree?
Or should I just drink less coffee? :-)
Keep Outperforming,
