I've always believed in a simple philosophy:
If you do what everyone else does, you're contributing to The Norm.
Resist the temptation to take the easy way. It's often not the best way.
I'll give you a little insight on where I'm going with this:
It's currently Friday, 9:25am Mountain Time.
So far this morning I've received two emails and two LinkedIn messages.
All from strangers. All wanting to "connect" or "explore opportunities to collaborate." All having zero personalization.
All were obviously written by AI.
So we're clear, I love AI. I use it everyday.
I use it to research and brainstorm and strategize and refine.
I DO NOT use it to CREATE.
When you read this article, it's Scott doing the writing. Not my alter ego, Claude.
As humans, we're always going to be hard-wired to take the path of least resistance.
But if that means outsourcing your voice to AI, and everybody is doing that, doesn't that mean you end up sounding like everyone else?
Is this what you want?
Oh c'mon, Scott, AI can draft an email in 2 seconds that takes me 20 minutes!
I get it. So let's define the purpose of the email:
If it's factual—to lay out an agenda, recap a meeting, state numbers, etc.—by all means, go with it.
If it's expressive, your originality matters. Your voice matters. It's what people want.
I have a wealth of videos, articles, and books, that I can feed into AI.
When I ask it to write something that sounds like me, it does a pretty good job.
We're not after 'pretty good,' are we?
And further, if you've read these articles for any length of time, you'd know the difference. You'd feel it.
You can tell artificial from authentic.
As we continue to move more and more towards robots, I firmly believe it's this REALNESS that people will crave. Give them you.
Rant over! 🤣
Keep Outperforming,

Outperform.
