I’m not a huge fan of social media.
Beyond the algorithms that feed confirmation bias and time that can easily be wasted through distraction, I do my best to focus elsewhere.
But, especially for my business, some amount of social media is necessary.
Up to this point, I’ve done most of my social media myself. I post regularly on LinkedIn and periodically enough on other platforms to let people know I have a pulse and I’m still speaking. 😊
It’s time to step it up, though.
Many times what got you here won’t get you there, and if I’m going to continue growing, I need help.
Yesterday I sat down with a social media consultant in Denver, CO.
I think I have a pretty good idea of my “brand,” message, and target audience, but throughout our 45-minute conversation, she asked me at least 3-4 questions for which I had no answers.
Seemingly SIMPLE questions for which I had no answers.
When is the last time you were asked a question that you felt like you SHOULD know the answer to, but didn’t? How’d you feel?
The younger version of Scott would have almost certainly responded in one of two ways:
– tried my best to answer with something that sounded right and sounded smart
– felt like an idiot, gone home and beat myself up about not knowing the answer
But Scott 2.0, the wiser and much more mature version 🤪, responded:
“I really appreciate you asking me that. I don’t have a great answer right now. I’ll need to give it more thought so we can talk more about it.”
This is life. This is where growth happens. It’s why people hire coaches, consultants, trainers, etc.
It doesn’t happen from always being the smartest person in the room. If that’s the case, you’re in the wrong room.
What keeps us from putting ourselves in better “rooms” (figuratively speaking) is not wanting to appear ignorant. Or less than.
And what keeps us from learning in better rooms is often the same thing.
It takes a certain amount of humility and self-confidence to be okay not being right. Or all-knowing.
You don’t have to prove that to anyone.
Keep Outperforming,

Outperform.
