I was having a conversation with a coaching client this week. He’s an entrepreneur.

At one point in the conversation he alluded to crossing a metaphorical future finish line, and if he could just get there, THEN he’d have less struggles.

I may not be a lot of things but one thing I try to be with everyone (coaching clients included) is honest and real.

My response was simply this:

“In your line of work, there will always be problems:

  • First you struggle to get meetings
  • Then you struggle to keep meetings
  • Then you struggle to get clients
  • Then you struggle to get better clients
  • Then you struggle to hire
  • Then you struggle to lead
  • Then you struggle to sustain growth

Struggles and problems are ALWAYS going to be there. They just look different over time.”

Entrepreneurship is a lot like life. Problems and struggles are never going away. It’s not the sexy self-help stuff you see on social media, but it is true. And the more you can embrace that mentality, the better equipped you are to withstand, and win, the battles of life.

It always brings me back to one of my favorite quotes from the late Jim Rohn:

Don’t wish it was easier; wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems; wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenge; wish for more wisdom.

I’ll leave it at that.

Keep Outperforming!
